About
Mourne Way Marathon Events
In 2009 the Mourne Way Marathon arrived onto the running calendar as the first ever mass participation off road marathon in Ireland.
Brainchild of newly formed events company 26 Extreme Ltd the event quickly grew momentum attracting competitors from all over Ireland, the UK and beyond. An ultra-marathon was added in the 2010 and has grown from a handful of runners to what is now a large field of long distance trail runners. In addition to the full marathon and ultra-race, there is also a ½ marathon 10k and Challenge walk in aid of Cancer Focus NI. If you’re looking to get into trail running or push your distance to the next level the Mourne Way events will have what you’re looking for.
Location
Mourne & Carlingford Lough
The Mourne Mountains are the highest and most dramatic of all mountain ranges in Northern Ireland.
With many exposed summits and torrs, cliffs, crags, forests, lakes and reservoirs the Mournes will leave you speechless.
The area is richly steeped in history, of Giants, Walls, Smuggling, Narnia and HBO hit series Game of Thrones and Vikings to name but a few have used the area as a backdrop for their filming.
If you’re making a holiday of it there are many local activity providers that offer equipment hire such as bikes, kayaks, yachts, as well as leadership and family experiences.
Check out www.eastcoastadventure.com for loads more to do in the area.
